With the price tag on a college education rising 4 times faster than inflation rates, 75% of Americans feel that college is unaffordable. With massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) now being offered by Ivy league colleges for free, is a college degree worth the investment? After all, elite colleges are steadily transforming online higher education as more and more universities offer free online courses. Even more interesting, students who participate and successfully complete MOOCs can earn certification for nominal fees. If employers accept the certificate credentials as a viable alternative to traditional degrees, it will be increasingly more difficult for traditional college programs to justify such rapidly rising tuition rates.
